Caster Wheels

If you make a roller stand with 4 casters rated at 100 pounds per
wheel. The machine that you will be using on the mobile base weighs
100 pounds. .

Will the weight of the machine be averaged out to 25 pounds per wheel
or will each wheel be carring 100 pounds?

Thank you

Rod

Yes, of course. On average. If the load is off-center, the wheels closer to
the load will carry more weight than the other wheels, but it still averages
out to 25. You're not anywhere close to the load limits of your casters.

How could it? The total load would obviously have to be 400 pounds, for EACH
of four wheels to be bearing 100.

One wheel would only be carrying 100 lbs. if the stand was somehow on
a pivot...with the other 3 wheels up in the air. Since 3 points
determine a specific plane, its conceivable that much of the time the
weight may be distributed over only 3 casters.

You shouldn't have any problem having those casters support that 100
lbs.

Worry less about weight capacity and more about size and ease of rolling.
Larger wheels will go over a bump or wood chip on the floor much easier than
a small one. Think about a curb in the street. Would you go over it easier
with a big tired pickup or a little motor scooter? Larger the wheel, easier
the climb. IMO, you should not use less than a 4" wheel in a shop.
