Amazing similarities to steel mill equipment I helped design that
would "Face" (Square off end of pipe), "profile" (Cut tapered profile
on end of pipe,) and "Thread" (Exactly that) pipe for oil field
service.
The whole process was totally automated which was late '50s time
frame.

The unicorn has been around a long time. Was a not-so-uncommon find on
farms decades ago. Typically attached to a doodle bug that was also a
fairly common find. They work, but the common hazard with them was that
they could explode the pieces. Generally if run too fast or if the wood was
frozen.
