Well, gun control didn't work in Australia, so now they're making
up for that with sword control.
Unfortunately, this is the direction some of the U.S. politicians
are heading too - Kerry included. What'll be banned next? Hammers?
Saws? Kitchen knives? The politicians seem to think their voters will
be safe, once they get those things away from them that will hurt them.
Of course, they could just go after criminals instead - the criminals
not already in office, that is - that would be the responsible thing to
do. Oops, responsible politician, that's an oxymoron.
JOAT
This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized
nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police
more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future.
- Adolf Hitler, 1935
Maybe they need an electoral college. The US one lets us little states have
a say, instead of just NY and LA electing every president.

Additionally, the one attributed to Ben Franklin about a well armed
sheep or some such has never been traced to his writing and appeared
earlier as a well-educated sheep quote instead.
Hitler had many interesting quotes. I rather like this one although I
can't say where it is real either:
"I shall not rest until every German sees that it is a shameful thing to
be a lawyer."

I'm on your side, but just FYI that quote's made up. Something that got passed
around in emails a few years back.

I guess it is easy to believe what a person wants to believe. And to
believe that because it is on the web that it must be true is even more
amazing. Not sure where this website is talking about. In Australia,
where I live:
Fact: The web site is wrong! Gun control is NOT the responsibility of
John Howard. Nor is the banning of swords. It is a state issue.
Fact: A sword was used at a nightclub to kill a person. Why did the
murderer need a sword at a nightclub?
Fact: Dangerous crime has DECREASED since gun controls were
strengthened.
Fact: There have been several murders between members of organized
crime. Guess who had easy access to guns?
Question: How many people were killed in US by snipers, gun rampages,
and accidental misuse of firearms last year?

Actually, kitchen knives are already banned in many states--at least for
possession outside of a kitchen.
I do feel sorry for the Aussies--bunch of nice people who somehow manage to
elect some of the worst politicians around. Part of the problem is that
the majority of votes lie in the cities, both there and here, and so
everybody gets penalized when the politicians without a clue attempt to
show that they are Doing Something about big-city problems.

Can't do that, that would be interfering with the criminals' right to
self-expression or some such.

better hold onto that idea, as abolishing the electoral college has come up
a few times in the last few years.

What do you mean by a "state issue"? Do you mean that it was done by state
governments instead of the national government?
> Fact: A sword was used at a nightclub to kill a person. Why did the

Fact, underwear was used in a bedroom to kill a person. Why did the
murderer need underwear in a bedroom?
If you banned every deviced used to commit a murder then all that would be
left would be a sandy desert.
> Fact: Dangerous crime has DECREASED since gun controls were

Where and when and for how long and what were the trends before and after
and how do you define "dangerous crime"?
> Fact: There have been several murders between members of organized

And gun control helped this situation how? Seems to me that you're
admitting that it failed to disarm criminals.
> Question: How many people were killed in US by snipers, gun rampages,
> and accidental misuse of firearms last year?
How many were killed in the US by criminal misuse of airliners in 2001?
Where there's a will there's a way. Now, what has the trend been? And how
many were committed per year before the Gun Control Act of 1968 compared to
how many were committed after?
