OT: Holiday safety

I would like to share an experience with you all, to do with drinking
and driving.

Some of us know people who have had brushes with the authorities on
their way home from a night out. Well, I for one have done something
about it.

The other night I was out for a dinner and a few drinks with some
friends. After having far too many wine and knowing full well I was
wasted, I did something I’ve never done before. I took a bus home. I
arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise, as
I have never driven a bus before.

Actually, in this thread I didn't see you attacking anyone, disability
or otherwise. You've got nothing to be concerned about on my account.

Read what I've said, and said repeatedly, if something has malice
attached to it, then it is unacceptable. The feeble joke you've used
above does have malice.

The driving bus joke does NOT. We all agree that driving while
intoxicated is unnaceptable. But, it's such an unlikely chance of it
happening, that I take it as acceptable humour.

people?

I can see how the old people jokes are insensitive though as I have
suffered that tragedy...

Only one opinion is important, apparently, and malice is a matter of
opinion. Dave has killfilters and a brain to ignore things he doesn't
like but chooses to attempt a fight, on a regular basis, and then whine
about it. This is a feeble attempt to prove his disability nickname, by
demonstrating a show self-pity. Pretty sick ploy.

What do you call a guy with no arms or legs...

... in the swimming pool? Bob.
... on the doorstep? Matt.
... on the wall? Art.

What do you call a dog with no legs?
Doesn't matter what you call him, he won't come anyway.

Thumbs WAY ^up^. A local watering hole has a shuttle. Pick up and
deliver. The thing runs all night and when it is time to go home,
usually still well under control, but enough beer to blow over, the
shuttle is already warm. Sometimes people we know might climb on at
the same time, small talk, keep us up to date with neighbours.... and
no smoking allowed. And free. The only pub in the area that pours
Alexander Keith IPA on tap... The atmosphere is a bit industrial/
agricultural...LOL.

One of the local taxi companies tried to sue the owner of the pub/
shuttle because of unfair competition. The area around the pub didn't
have a DUI arrest in a 5km circle in two years, while the same can't
be said for other neighbourhood pubs. So the city thought it fair to
charge a taxi license for the shuttle. About 50 people tossed enough
money in the jar to pay for the license AND a year's worth of
insurance. That is how we roll. One segment in the argument dealt with
the fact that taxis, later in the evening, smell like vomit and
cigarettes.... "clean that up and we might use you more often..."

Grow up! There's always going to be somebody somewhere that finds a
particular brand of humour personally unacceptable. If we were to
subscribe to your objection, there would never be any humour anywhere
at any time. Is that what you think should happen? Humour is one of
the many tools that humans use to cope. Use it for what it is intended
for.

EVERYBODY at some time has tragedy in their lives, whether they're
disabled or not. Someone using their disability as a means of attack
or to make someone else feel bad is what is I consider unacceptable.
I'll say it again, if there's no malice intended in a commant, then
it's fine.

I use a wheelchair too, but I was still able to see the humour in the
driving the bus home drunk joke. And, that joke didn't mention killing
someone along the way.

The difference between the drinking bus joke and molesting children is
that drinking to some degree is accepted by society. Molesting
children is not acceptable in any way shape or form.

Finally, I'm fine with most 'disabled' jokes just as long at they
don't have any malice attached to them. You want to make jokes about
my wheelchair, hey go for it. Just don't do it as some form of attack.
Some people need to lighten up around here.

Either way.... drunk driving isn't something that should be joked about.
Can you make a funny about it? Sure. You can make a funny about lots of
stuff, like pedophilia and rape, but that doesn't mean you should.

Yeah, I was waiting for this reply.

I'm guessing the accident messed up your brain along with your legs.
But hey, don't get bent out of shape, I'm just joking around.

If that didn't piss you off or offend you in any way, I honestly feel
sorry for you.
You're either so emotionally hurt by what happened to you that you've
shut down those emotions as a defense mechanism or you're truly just an
asshole and the accident didn't change that.

There's no way a rational thinking man could have so little compassion
for others that he can't see how jokes about raping little boys and
drunk drivers killing people goes way beyond simple political correctness.

Who names this stuff anyway?! Your comment is the natural reaction for
anyone asking what it is. On a similar note, a bunch of independent small
shops in Portland, OR decided to have a Black Friday shopping campaign and
called it "Little Boxes". First thing that popped into my head was the song
"Little Boxes" - not the image they were trying to portray. They wanted to
differentiate themselves from the Big Box Retail outfits and end up saying
they are a bunch of cookie cutter shops.

Yes, I wrote, "You can make a funny about lots of stuff, like pedophilia
and rape, but that doesn't mean you should."
Then I was told, "Pull your PC head out of your PC ass and lighten up."

The very logical conclusion is this person sees jokes about those things
as simply "un-PC."

Having tragedy in ones life doesn't give one a pass on being offensive

The only reason "drunk driving" is even a topic in out collective
conscience is because of people being killed by drunk drivers. There
wouldn't be a law against it and you wouldn't see countless PSAs on
television about it if it only resulted in people driving the wrong car
home.

Drinking AND DRIVING is not accepted in society... quite a distinct
difference you left out. I'm not the one who referred to jokes about
molesting children as being un-PC.

Yeah, because that's exactly what I mean.
I meant, things like drunk driving, pedophilia and rape are topics which
shouldn't be joked about so we should stop joking about any and
everything. Yep, that's clearly what I meant. wow.

If you think I actually was joking about his disability and making fun

What do you call a guy with no arms or legs...

... in the swimming pool? Bob.
... on the doorstep? Matt.
... on the wall? Art.

What do you call a dog with no legs?
Doesn't matter what you call him, he won't come anyway.

You neglected to include to above quoted lines. Maybe it was simply an
oversight.

The jokes *never took place.*
I asserted that such jokes should not be made and the reply to me was
that it was simply un-PC to make such jokes.

Ok you need a follow up post to your previous and title it "Never Mind".

Ayup.

P.S: Doug, next time just say "This AIN'T Twitter!" and we'll all
understand. We shall grok it in its entirety. ;)

P.P.S: -One- exclamation point or question mark will suffice. If you
need to make the point more loudly, call them on the phone, 'k?

NOW THAT is funny! I just knew you were going to say that you called a
decoy drunk driver to come and distract the authorities attention away
from you.

Dave loves to play the "hurt duckling" while he attacks people on this
group as it helps avoid counter attacks and suspicion, as a newbie,
that he may actually be an oldbie, with a previous grudge, for Chris
sake.

In the short time of his miserable existence, using this name, he has
played the wheelchair card three times.

Actually, in this thread I didn't see you attacking anyone, disability
or otherwise. You've got nothing to be concerned about on my account.
