Just to shed light on political discussions...
A simple YES (I'd switch) or NO (My mind is made up) is fine. No
explanation necessary or wanted. You can pick any other pair, as long
as they belong to the other party, and I don't want to know who they are.
YES or NO
I haven't made up my mind, as I want to see the debates, so I can't vote.

We have no republicans or democrats here in Canada.
We have Liberals and Conservatives.
US...............Canada
Republican =3D Conservative (who can be compassionate)
Democrat =3D Liberal
Conservative=3D nutbar fundies
Liberal Lefties =3D National Democratic Party (Socialists)

What US ideals? To make the rich richer and screw the rest? Plunder
the nation's wealth and ruin the goodwill across the planet? Naaa, I
ain't buying into that being the right/moral way to live.
Ideals are supposed to have some positive component to them. Unless
you want to call Islamofascism's desire to kill all the infidels one
of the ideals of the terrorists? Bullies will always bump their noses
into the butt of karma. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I was for one guy until I found out more about that guy. I was never
for the other guy on the other party ticket. I was for a few that did
not make it. I can't recall who didn't make it on the other ticket. I
am not a party voter but I guess if I have no clue in the booth I
stick with one party. I try to enter the booth with a clue. In out
local county board chairman I would vote out of my preferred party as
there really is no need for party affiliation on that local level and
the incumbent is a boob. No offense to those with boobs. Maybe buffoon

Yes and no. If you are referring to the presidential election, yes I
would consider any and no I will hold my nose when I vote as my
choices are bad and bad.

I think a Feingold/McCain ticket would be awesome. Feingold is my
ideal of a politician.
Love the fact that Feingold continues to kick GOP ass while refusing
to take private money (or some such similar uprightness). Like his t-

I would deny that. If you want to hold up a healthcare system that
works (albeit not without its problems) as an indicator of socialism,
then please widen your blinders.
There are no collectives, no free rides for the lazy.
What you need to learn, Doug, is that when there is something you
don't understand from your perch as a US citizen, doesn't
automatically fall into the play-book category as socialism. The
brainwashing is strong, try to fight it. There are countries outside
the US that have their shit together. NON-US does NOT mean 'bad'.
Okay?
It pisses me off that too many Americans think that they are the
Chosen Ones and the rest of the planet is populated by a bunch of
Neanderthals. Get a fucking grip. Maturity and responsible thinking
goes well beyond your borders, okay?
It is exactly THAT arrogance that made the Bush administration so
popular, but then again, you don't give a fuck who likes you, right?

Ideals are a point of view. They don't necessarily mean a right or moral way
to live. For the most part, a sizable portion of the US populaation has
their own point of view and everyone else be damned.

The rest of the country is survival of the fittest with plenty of

What support? McCain is a hothead who has NO clue about economics, is
computer illiterate and is completely out of touch with regular
people. Having been a POW is not a qualification for the job he wants
and he's just too willing to do whatever it takes to win. He's just a

This is where we part company. It does not have to be 'either/ or'.
Free enterprise does not work where doctors lack the ethics and the
understanding of the hippocratic oath. Essential services like police
and fire should be the same for everybody. Heating fuel should be
managed like taxes; the more you earn, the more you pay. You want to
be irresponsible and commute in an Escalade? You should pay more for
gas than the poor woman who needs her old car to get to work.
There should be a cap on income taxes and tax breaks for creating
employment and a bonus if the new jobs are domestic.
Teachers in the inner cities should make more money than the lazy
fucks who lounge in idyllic small country schools. My niece, who is a
teacher in Witchita KS, agrees.
A person can be be an aggressive business man and make a ton of money
and still give a shit about the people around him.
One does not preclude the other.

I think more than three got it. But it seems pretty meaningless as a
question, since no matter what the poll shows, things won't change. In
a way, it reminds me of the flights of fancy that some people get up
to in DPReview when asked what they'd like to see in their next
digital single reflex camera. When the list exceeds a probability of a
$10,000 retail cost, the last demand is usually something like, "a
price under $1,000 or I won't consider it."

Selling oil & NG hardly disqualifies a country from being socialist.
Does the name Hugo Chavez ring a bell.
No attempt at a troll - would you deny that Canada is further along the

Fiscal conservative who believes that Canada is rich enough that
nobody should ever have to fall through the cracks.

Yeah, but when compared to US ideals, everyone else necessarily has to be

I could care less about your card or what color it is. I do give a
"fuck" about what you think, at least how you could possibly claim to be

By "conservative" I mean for individual freedom, minimum government
control and business that is privately owned and controlled as opposed
to socialism, where government thinks it needs to totally control
everything because you are too fucking stupid, for example, to buy gas
or build a windmill.

Obama without reservation and with enthusiasm when asked supported the
liberal wing of the Supreme court....McCain without reservation and with
enthusiasm when asked supported the conservative wing. Both said they would
specifically appoint judges reflecting said opposing views......It was the
liberal wing of the court that declared via Eminent domain that it was
constitutional to take possession of private property merely for economic
development or enhanced tax revenue. I would suggest it takes a liberal to
respect the individual and private property so little.
On some level it does make one wonder what a Canadian certified
conservative is, apparently not quite the same as a U.S.
conservative................. Rod

In the US today, socialism is the new liberal philosophy. Individual
freedoms of "classical" liberalism is far different from what the new
liberals like Obama and Biden support.
You cannot support giving more power to the government via increased
government control of the individuals money, increased control of free
enterprise via massive government regulation, increased control over
damn near everything, from health care to government ownership of sports
stadiums, parking and transportation systems, all gambling, and a myriad
of other things supporters of CLASSICAL liberalism strongly believe
government should be far away from and the new liberal (socialist)
thinks should be totally controlled by a strong, centralized government,
just like Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro and others of their ilk thought.
If you wish though, I can call Obama and his far left wing party
"socialist" instead of "liberals". Makes little difference. The
Republican party is not too far behind.

That had been settled law for centuries. I was truly surprised
that the case got to the USSC in the first place.
It has long been commonplace for local governments to
condemn undeveloped property so that it could be seized
and sold to developers. Contrary to the literal meaning of
the word, property does not have to be decrepit, in disrepair
or subject o back taxes to be condemned.
I first became aware the condemnation of developed
property for the purpopse of tranferring it from one
private party to another when SOHIO (now BP) had
the City of Cleveland condemn a perfectly good office
building currently in use, on Public Square so that it
could be torn down to make room for the new SOHIO
headquarters.
That was twenty years or more before the recent USSC
case.
I think that sucks. I think it really stretches the meaning
of "for public use". But I also know that is how it has
been for a very long time, so I was disappointed, but
not surprised at the ruling.
Do you remember the name of the case?
(foo v bar or whatever?)

LOL.. WELL then....
Ideals are a point of view, but they shouldn't be at the exclusion of
other people's point of view.
In my point of view, Ducati makes a great motorcycle...but that
doesn't mean that there aren't other manufacturers of motorcycles who
make bikes more suitable for other people.
The fact that our Canadian political system works for us, warts and
all, doesn't mean that other systems don't work elsewhere. Tito was a
dictatorial bastard, but kept Yugoslavia together. There even was an
upside to Saddam's Iraq. They all were given an education, healthcare
was better than in many parts of the world... but he was thinking
about switching to the Euro... well.. the rest is history.
My neighbour on one side listens to Beethoven..loudly.. and my
neighbour on the other side listens to punk rock.. loudly... They both
raise their kids in such a way that they have respect for me.
It's that 'shoving ideals down the throats of others' that I have a
problem with. The Iraquis don't hate us for our freedoms...for fuck
sakes... they hate us because we're trying to exploit them and trying
to impose OUR ideals onto them.
My granma always said that it's better to catch flies with honey than
with vinegar...
Mind you, that was the same granma who always said: "It doesn't matter
if you're rich or poor, it's always nice to have a little money."

Yes, if you are a conservative, he is a bad choice, unless faced with
him or Obama, the most left wing person in Congress.

She certainly would not be my choice, but she appears to be

No, Obama is an ultra-left wing, anti white racist that has little use

Why do you think doctors lack ethics any more than anyone else. Free
enterprise has always worked well in this country, and still does. The
biggest problem with our medical system is medical insurance has taken
free enterprise out of the mix to the point they act almost, but not
quite as bad as government.
Essential services like police and fire should be the same for everybody.
> Heating fuel should be managed like taxes; the more you earn, the more you pay.
I agree, and heating fuel is based on the more you use, the more you
pay. Well, unless you are a commercial enterprise, then you pay a much
higher rate than a homeowner.
Taxes should be the same, the more you make, the more you pay.
Graduated income tax is patently wrong and punishes success.

I don't think caps, breaks or bonuses should be part of our tax system.

Our inner city schools do pay more than suburban schools, plus they get
all sorts of bonuses like school loans paid off and so on. Teachers in
Pgh make over $80 grand a year not including tuition bonuses and our
suburban schools pay closer to $70,000 a year, not counting extras like
bowling clubs and what not.

Of course, most business men care a lot about the people around them?

Being a certified conservative precludes supporting Obama and Biden for
any office. In fact, supporting any Democrat in the US pretty much
precludes one being anything near a "certified conservative".

I'm sure more than three people got it. The problem is the question
itself. Just like a great deal polling these days, a simple answer to
certain questions can be readily (and often deliberately) misconstrued as
indicative of trends and moods that are not necessarily reflective of the
intent of the person being polled. Those purported trends and moods are
then used to influence public opinion rather than measure it. I believe a
number of people who responded to your question were wanting to put their
answers into the proper context to assure that their answers would not be
misconstrued. i.e., for some questions, there is no such thing as a simple
yes or no answer.

It was July-August, 1981-1982 time frame.
Had dust all over the place as a result of the impolusion.
They also took a building that had been put on the National Register

Understand BP moved headquarters out of Cleveland to I think Chicago a

Kind of ironic.
