OT:sbcglobal shutting down alt.binaries

In their infinite wisdom, under the guise of protecting our children from
porn, sbcglobal(ATT) have stopped carrying all alt.binaries newsgroups on
their servers. This has the unfortunate side effect of blocking all the
legitimate binary groups like ABPW. Can anyone recommend a decent news
server, low cost of free preferably. I'm not that much of a news junkie to
pay $20/month+.

Y'know, I can understand wanting to protect our kids but isn't that really
the parents responsibility to monitor their internet access.

I'm beginning to hate these idiotic do gooders and so called moral majority
who do more harm than good.

I've been doing pretty good with Astraweb. They have two basic packages:
A monthly unlimited package, or a bandwidth-limited package. If you read
primarily text groups, the bandwidth package could very well last you
forever. When I signed up, about 5 months ago, they had 90GB of transfer
for $25.

You have made that suggestion before, I therefore tried it. Works
great. cheap, fast, and works fine with my MT Newswatcher (mac)

Just saw that bellsouth.net has a lot of new newsgroups and some of them are
picture groups.

Same problem here, I've just bought $5.00 worth from www.usenet-news.net ,
looks best value to me and has all groups I visit.

For anybody looking for a decent news server, the maker of Forte Agent has
Agent Premium News that has excellent retention and a 30 day trial period.
Prices start at $2.95 for 10 gigabytes a month.

news://news.lga.highwinds-media.com/ is free and has abpw, no posting
allowed though. To post get a free flickr or photobucket account and
post the link to the image or set of images in your mesage on
rec.woodworking.

The moral majority are neither of those. The squeakier wheel gets the

Uh, Andrew Cuomo is a grandstanding liberal with one of those smirks
that suggests that he is badly in need of a blanket party. He's
fighting "kiddy porn" "For The Children", "If it only saves one" then
it's worthwhile to his way of thinking. He is not part of or in any
way associated with the "moral majority", which is just as loony but
is not liberal.

In this case you can thank another posturing politician, more interested in
promoting himself than in protecting children, playing to the hordes of
sheep so "dumbed down" that they can longer spell "despicable", much less
recognize it.
