Ouch! Lure? I'm giving this stuff away and get nothing in return but a smile on my face.

If the climate were different here I'd participate more.

Allow? More ignorance showing.

I'm not clear on what your problem is.=20

First it appears that you have a problem with me making money from Google (=
your ignorance can be blamed for this assumption). Then you appear to be f=
aulting me for NOT making money from Google (to quote you "Well then that's=
just plain stupid."). Now you appear to be faulting me for making other p=
eople money.

Make up your mind guy. You sound very angry. And here I thought musicians=
were supposed to be laid back and chill :) =20

Relax bro.

Amen, Producing a video does not mean that the video is demonstrating
the best way, correct way, or accepted way to do something.

The vast majority of the woodworking videos are more of a documentary of
the person learning by trial and error. I have not seen one in the last
several years that did not have amateur mistakes.

The funniest ones are where the person is not quite comfortable with
applying glue. How much should I use, well if I have 50% squeeze out
that should be plenty.

Hint, the glue expense should not be a major part of the cost of the
project.

And my all time favorite, Brad what's his name that insisted on calling
a SCMS a RAS.

Oh and then there was the one, Ultimate Workshop IIRC, The guy saw his
mistake in cutting a dado when the guard prevented him from finishing
the cut. He and the audience got to witness that one as he was
"teaching" how to do that procedure.

Nice of you to clarify, Leon. While not overtly offensive, I found your
post to be a bit edgy.

I find Brian's website interesting and don't mind him touting it here.
I mean, perhaps if this group was not bogged down with Verizon rants and
some of the other extraneous crap that drifts in from time to time...

OTOH, I can't seem to figure out Mike (oh he of little to no redeeming
qualities) at all. It seems like nothing Brian does pleases him.

He's pissed when he thinks Brian's making money, he is pissed and goes
further to ridicule him when Brian says he's not. If Mike's that upset,
perhaps the best thing for him to do is just put Brian in his Killfile -
just a Mike as now earned a place in mine.<g>

Nope. My videos are NOT monetized by google/youtube.

I wish they were. But no.

You will not see any google ads on either my website or my videos.

Clicks/views do not earn me a dime.

I like Brian and have always been supportive of his efforts.

That said, I have also mentioned that there are a surfeit of these types
of woodworking concept videos on the interwebz and it has been apparent
for some time now that their appeal has diminished considerably.

It's why Norm and DJM, and their producers with the smart money, got out
while the getting was good.

It was a sign of the times when a youngster in his twenties, like the
WoodWhisperer, a nice enough guy in his own right (and I like him
personally enough to have donated to help he and his family over a rough
patch a few years ago), could suddenly have absorbed all the woodworking
wisdom of the world to instruct others, while barely out of diapers
himself.

It was a bandwagon, and one that didn't always add up, made possible
first by cable TV, then YouTube and Google+, et al.

Now Elvis has left the building...

Well his opening statement was indicating that he was not getting much
interest. I took that as something that concerned him, he thought so
much about it that he mentioned it. I simply commented that if he
participated more "here" that he might get more of a following and or
comments to his "click here" posts.

I in fact early on, years ago, commented to Brian that he seemed to have
a talent for producing these videos and encouraged him to persue this
avenue.

I don't really think I was edgy in the least, I am not known for hiding
my thoughts and they are really very seldom meant to be taken as offensive.

Bogged down? Have you not been able start an an on topic thread?

When NO ONE is talking about woodworking, OT posts happen more often and
seem to be the only thing here. In those cases if there was no OT
posting there would be no posting at all. ;~)

Your getting hits to your monetized videos which make you money from
google/youtube. All you've done is realized the modern revenue
structure for media content. Give it away and get as many people to hit
on it as possible and collect the ad money. I get my direct deposits
from youtube, too.

Now if you'd just get hit in the balls a few times in your videos,
you'd *really* discover the secret to increased revenue stream. :-)

More like yours. Youtube doesn't provide their service as a charity.
They make money and you're contributing the content that allows it, even
if you don't allow it to be monetized.

Are you also providing ads for Highland Woodworking out of the kindness

Hey... Make sure you are clear here... You're talking about -MIKE- and
that's important because there are a couple of us Mikes here. Each one of
us can be offensive in one way or another but we don't like our offensive

FWIW, I side with Leon. Brian and I had the "script" discussion before.
Brian pointed out the
disclaimer on his web site that (paraphrased) he "is in no way
responsible for anything", and that was all I needed to know.

I have a problem with you pretending to be benevolent by "giving the
stuff away" and your general attitude that we should be grateful for you
for gracing us with your wisdom.

What's stupid as allowing a corporation to profit off your labors
without you being paid.

By the way, you didn't answer my question about the Highland Woodworking
ads.

Thanks for killfiling me. I appreciate it.
I'll sleep so much better tonight knowing I won't be upsetting some
anonymous nitwit on the internet.

Hey... Make sure you are clear here... You're talking about -MIKE- and
that's important because there are a couple of us Mikes here. Each one of
us can be offensive in one way or another but we don't like our offensive
natures to get confused.

Right. Reading your posts are kinda like smelling your own farts...they
kinda stink, but they have their own sweet bouquet at the same time! ;-)

either. :-)
