Actually one of Giganews' alternate ports is 80, the other 23. Forte's
server has port 443 as an alternate. I am sure that other NSP's
provide other ports beside 119.

Why? Because you are doing it from work and they won't let you access
port 119 through the firewall?
If so, I understand, but there are alternatives, like a computer at home.

Thanks Swingman. In a few days, I'll see how well the SPAMMER trash adapt.

The web interface you are using is google groups, which is where the
spam is coming from. Google makes money from the ads present to you on
they're interface.

Get a real news server. I pay $7.99 a month for GigaNews and get exceptional
service; much better than the idiots at my ISP who offer the "same" service for
free. I'd rather pay the $7.99 and actually get what I'm paying for.
Before I forget: moving away from the web interface will allow you to filter
out all the crap. I don't see any of it; haven't for ages. I don't even use a
dedicated news reader: I use Outlook Express with NewsProxy and Quotefix-OE.

There is lots of spam lately. I didn't need to use filters for a long time.
Now the filters are set, only a few get by and they get added.

For those using OE, just the following two "News" rules will eliminate
almost all of the recent spate.

or 'tiffany' or 'cartier' or 'rolex' or 'POLO' or 'wholesale' or 'fuck' or

Haven't seen any in days now. FWIW ...
