not work - there's no mention of dovetails, mortises, biscuits, or even
gluing. Futhermore - the OP made no mention of considering the purchase of
new tools for this "project", and as a seasoned veteran, you had the
obligation of steering the poor fellow in the right direction. Please try
to be more thorough in the future.

AAMOF, I was just fixing to remark upon B a r r y ' s obvious inattention
myself.B a r r y should know by now that a practiced and seasoned wRecker
always infers the REAL meaning from what was actually written/asked:

Does it make a difference if my saw is left tilt and my trousers 'dress
right'? What kind of 4by4's? How do I know they are fourbyfours, they don't
measure that way ... is it my tape measure? Is it my fence? Should I buy a
Starret? Is it 4by4, 4 X 4, or fourbyfour? How many board feet in 4by4's?
How do I figure board feet? Can I gloat if I use chestnut? Which way should
I run the grain? Can I use a CAD program? Which one is free? Will my 12"
SCMS cut them? Do I push it or pull it? What's the best blade? Will it cut
54 degrees? What's a stacked dado and which end goes out? Can I just glue
the ends together? What kind of glue? How many clamps will I need? Can a
Democrat have too many? Are there any left at HD? What's a SWMBO and just
who the hell was H. Rider Haggard anyway? Are blue handles OK on my chisels?
Are the terms BAD and PLONK synonymous in wooddorking circles? Can I stain
them? If I use PT 4by4, 4 X 4, or fourbyfours, will the chemicals effect my
toenail fungus medicine? Should I install a grounded sub panel for this job?

Yep, it's a sad fact that ".02" simply ain't worth what it used to be.

no reason you couldn't use 4x4s, given that the setup is stable enough
that the saw won't vibrate off or be pushed off when you're working on
it. have you considered building a mobile base for the saw that gives
you the needed lift? it could give you some additional versatility in
your small shop.
