Hi all; I have a cheap, but good Stanley #220 block plane. However,
the blade is pretty badly treated by some previous owner and I'm
thinking it might make more sense to replace it. I don't think I
want to put a $35 Hock blade on a $10 plane, so does anybody
have any suggestions?

Then, Lee Valley Veritas replacement blades are out of the question:

Why not? If it cuts like a first class plane when done it would be a
good investment.

I haven't looked, but Walmart is probably just listing it for some other
seller. Seems popular these days.

Thanks. It's not an exact match for the blade I have, but maybe it
doesn't need to be.

Hmmm; you do have a good point there.

Hmmm. Looks like there's one there that would be an exact match. Thanks
for the pointer.
For now, I elected to just sharpen the one I have. It took me about
half an hour on a grinding wheel to get past the bad part, and I probably
hurt the temper of the metal in the process, but I need the sharpening
practice.

Stanley website says their part number is 12-508. Home Depot and Amazon
shows it at $7.50 and shipping. I'd skip Walmart, they want $25+.
