Gloat: Bessey & Amazon

Last week I got an email from amazon. It seems as if when you buy
something from them they forevever bombard you with UCE for tools they
have on sale.

Well, anyway, I got an email for 50" Bessey clamps for $30.14 US each.
Compared to the local BORG it seemed like a good price. Plus there was
no shipping and no tax! They arived in two days without paying extra
charges for special delivery. I thought that was good, but it gets even
better.

Two of the clamps arrived with the tail piece broken off. I called
amazon customer service on their dime and Patel said I could mail them
back - that didn't make sense. Then he offered 20% discount each on the
two broken ones. All of a sudden I could live with the broken tail
pieces.

After I hung up, I looked up Bessey on the web and found their site
(JOAT would be proud of me). I called their customer service and a
nice friendly young girl by the name of Dinette (sp?) took my info and
said she would FedEx them out ASAP. Well, they arrived in a four pack
three days later.

So, now my two damaged clamps are as good as new with a 20% discount to
boot! As Colonel Hannibal Smith would have said, "I love it when a plan
comes together."

I think you took advantage of poor Amazon. You literally robbed them
out of their hard earned money.

When there was a run on Amazon for the 50" Besseys several months ago I
received one with a broken plastic end, too. Their packaging consists
of merely wrapping the clamps in corrugated cardboard. I didn't think
it was worth making a stink about, the clamps still worked.

Other readers considering ordering the 50" Besseys from Amazon ought to
realize that their package for shipment may be less than ideal and the
plastic end may arrive cracked/broken.
