I've watched filtering tips over the last couple of weeks for
folks using various news readers (besides AOL's) and been
bummed at not seeing AOL's options mentioned.
I just went to AOL's newsgroups window, simply titled
"Newsgroups". This is the place you go to select which
groups you want to subscribe too.
To Filter: Click on "Set Preferences"
that calls up a heading called "Global Newsgroup Preferences"
Click on tab for "Filtering"
Under Select filter type: select "Subject Contains"
Then under "Enter new filter:" enter the word you want to filter
and click the "Add Filter" I entered all the words I wanted to filter
individually, then finish by clicking the "Save" button.
It works and is easy to go too and update.
Cleaner at last.

That's what I did and with about a dozen profanities in my list I have made the
trash go to a very low number. At least it isn't oppressive for my wife who
sometimes reads over my shoulder.
It is tough trying to explain that "woodworking" isn't some strange code word
for a porno site.
