The thread about the movincool air conditioners has gotten me to
thinking about fully climate controlled shops. Setting aside what I
presume to be a huge cost issue, wouldn't the "best" situation be a
fully air conditioned shop with adjustable humidifiers and
dehumidifiers?
Cooler air in the summertime would be a really nice thing to have
(more comfortable work environment possibly leading to increased
ability to attract and retain good employees), but I'm really more
interested in the idea of controlled humidity. If you could set the
moisture level of your shop to that which is dead in the middle of the
average fluctuation for a given region, couldn't you eliminate fully
50% of the potential wood movement? Or maybe you could set the
humidity deliberately high when you glue up raised and fielded panels
so that you needn't worry about an expanding panel cracking the frame.
Do you think that there would be any "real" benefit? From a marketing
perspective you could sort of talk it up a bit I guess....
Just wondering.
