Caught an amusing article in the Wall St Journal about research questions
that few others would bother to ask. Googled it...

Results: "...for adults aged 55 years or older, 47.2% were injured in
incidents involving power tools"
Conclusions: "adults should take safety precautions when using power tools"
If the link fails find
Annals of Emergency Medicine
and use their search tool for "finger amputation."

Did the study control for Viagra-induced vision impairment?
I mean, accidents are to be expected when you're sawing wood with your
wood in the way. ;-)

Now that is simply foolish.
Climbing shoes have sticky rubber on them that grip the wood much better
than ballet shoes. Geez.

That may be true, but Ed may be wearing the ballet slippers for other
reasons as well.

Thanks for posting this. I never would have known to take precautions. I'm
happy to send in my tax dollars to get good, solid, information like this.
Based on their conclusions, I'm no longer going to put my fingers in harm's
way. I've been practicing pushing the wood through the tablesaw blade with
my feet. So far, it has worked well. For narrow stock, ballet shoes sure
help a lot.

Yep, particularly amusing is the revelation that percent of injuries due
to power tools increases with age compared to injuries caused by doors.
Heaven forbid that anybody realize that of course, as people get older,
they know better than to get their hands in the way of closing doors. Who
vets these studies?
