Finished my white oak benches. Qrt sawn white oak side and center panels.
Finished with wipe on poly.
These will be given away to my sister. She paid for the lumber and I paid
in sweat! Ugg.
She asked if I could make one of these for her that she saw on the L.L.bean
website. I said 'sure no problem' and she said 'can you make two?' Uggg.
I should of charged a little . Oh well.

First rate! A question and a comment:
-I'm curious about your order of operations here. It appears that you
glued up the carcass without having the panels installed. How did you
install the panels?
-comment: Sorry, but your fine woodwork seems to deserve a nice
handmade cushion!!
Really nice work and looks very well executed. My comments, are just
that and in no way criticisms.
1. I think I would have oriented the grain in the panels to be
vertical.
2. It might have been nice to pin the mortises, even with white oak vs
a contrasting color the end grain would be a little darker. I would
even put in faux pins if there wasn't always a tenon at the joint. I
used to frown on them as distracting or taking away but have come to
love the little bit of extra character and visual interest they
provide.
3. I would have likely beveled the top of the legs as a low angle
pyramid, somewhere between 5 to 15 degrees and softened all the edges
on the pyramid.

Your sister paid for the wood?
Wow!
Mine's so cheap she wouldn't even pay for the nails!

No, the panels were glued into the left and right side in a sub-assembly.
The center panel was placed in the subsequent (and final) assembly.
You may be confusing a dry fit photo for a glue-up on my web site.
Thanks you!
