Cheap Chikong crap COSTING MY MONEY

Anyone else having this problem with cheap ass crap coming over from China.
Did a bunch of odd jobs yesterday and one was hanging a rather large
mirror. After hanging it and while I was standing there admiring my work and
the customer standing there to, one side of the hanger bracket broke. I
caught it just in time before it crashed to the floor. The customer looked
at me like I was an idiot. Upon further review the ring that hooks to the
hanger on the wall completely separated. It was not welded. I explained
this to the customer but of course it couldn't be her problem since she
bought a cheap piece of crap from China. Doubt I will ever get a call from
her again.

You can end up with cheap crap no matter where it's
made if your only criteria is that it be the least
expensive. =20

As someone who's dealt with headless screws a few times, I can tell you
that they hold as well as the kind with heads. Sometimes I get lucky and
there's only one in the pieces of wood I'm taking apart, and I can twist
them loose. Once I wound up using a hole saw to cut a hole AROUND the
headless screw to get the boards seperated.

Sometimes you've gotta laugh so you don't cry...

What I've never understood, is that in this country
we have an export tax, but not much of an import tax.
Reverse that so it will help bring back quality and jobs.

Headless screws don't hold very well. You might want to look at your clutch
setting on your drill driver before you drive them to.

I was trying to take apart something with a headless screw a while ago. I
dremel'd a slot in the head but the screwdriver just spun it round and
didn't unscrew it. In the end I had to get some pincers on it and just
pull it straight out.

I was surprised - it had no thread at all on it! Now who would make a
thing like that?

Never hide a screw in a glue joint, if you expect to take the piece apart
later (DAMHIKT)...

I framed my 32" square mirror and mounted it to the studs using four
pairs of these:

http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=1&p=40349&cat=3,43715,43716

I could probably do chinups on it without any concerns of it falling
down, and it comes off the wall simply by lifting it straight up.

I don't think y'all are understanding my point. Installers are becoming
responsible for lousy cheaply built crap, (NOT JUST BRACKETS,duh) they have
no control over. I knew this bracket was probably going to be a problem but
this work is not normally what I do so I don't stock this stuff. So its
getting to the point that you better inspect everything you install that's
built in China and stock only made in USA replacements, brilliant solution.
If you don't and it fails it will be your fault. Not the fault of the
customer for buying cheap ass shit to begin with.

OBTW I went to buy a replacement brackets for the mirror and guess what? I
could only find made in CHICOM crap. I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know of what you speak.

I was mounting a mirror on a bathroom wall. This was because the original
mounts have broken away and it was barely staying on the wall. I bought the
most expensive mirror mounts I could find. I installed numerous mounts
around the thing. I come back the next day and some of them had broken off.
I bought some more and installed them. Finally, it was enough.

All that cheap crap just doesn't do the job.
