I have been asked to make a stand for a big family Bible. The folks
that are asking are into Victorian and Georgian styles. When I did a
google search, I came up with very little. In fact, the first hit was
an ebay auction for a iron stand with a couple of boards poorly attached
to it. This whole thing was painted red. I am looking for some ideas.
I would like to do the project in mahogany. Tips and pointers are
appreciated!

I'm guessing a search for a "dictionary stand" will be more fruitful.

I didn't even think of dictionary stand. It is really amazing how someone
gets focused on something and totally misses related items!
Thanks

Everyone says that, but hardly anyone says what search phrase/word
they used. Try using lectern, and check the archives.
One rather neat one I saw (yes, I do have religious friends), was a
little stand that sat on a table. On that one the Bible was kept open
(yes, they can also read). Might consider a Bible box.

Popular Woodworking online index shows a dictionary stand by Jim Randall in
the 1/1995 volume #82 page 66, 4 pages long. Solid Black Walnut. No
indication whether it is desktop or floorstanding. Your local library may
be able to round up a copy for you. Ask to talk with the "Information
librarian" They really know how to dig up old back issues. If they do not
have it, they can use a vast network of affiliated libraries to either
borrow that issue or have a Xerox made for you.

Hey, you responded to my post, I'm not the one interested. I keep
my Bibles on a book case.

David Marks did a very nice large book stand that would more than do
for your needs. Check out DIY.

The nicest ones I've seen are usually more of a lecturn, or a small pulpit.
Or are you more interested in a stand to just hold the Book open when it is
on display on top of another piece of furniture?
