I could cheerfully have lived the remainder of my life in ignorant bliss,
never having seen that filth because *my* TrollFilters dropped it -- and then
you hadda go and repost it.

Just one question: why?

During the last turdstorm, advice was posted here in abundance on how to
filter troll posts. Evidently, you didn't learn much from it.

Did you ever give any thought that maybe nobody gives a shit what you
like?

Filter his domain address. Works for me. Then it doesn't make any
difference what name he uses next.

Have a nice week...

Mind enlightening us as to how you know
what their future ids are so you can filter
them before they post the first time?

He's been gloating about this for ages on alt.troll.
It can be traced. Yeah, I know what he's doing.
I also know that if google didn't allow a repeat offender
to get accounts with them so easily, this wouldn't happen.

No it doesn't. What changes is the address he gets from google.
The one he uses to get to them is most likely the same.

They can compare past cancelled IP addresses to requests for new ones.
If the trolls find out they have to get new hotmail accounts every
time they want a new google address, they'll give up: it's too much hassle.

The problem is that google makes it TOO easy. There is no checking
whatsoever if a new request is from an IP already cancelled.
None whatsoever. That is just not kosher.

He's not a script kiddy. Those don't bother with this sort of
thing. He's just a silly troll. All he needs is a nice warm up
of his behind and he'll trot off at high speed. I know the kind.

But what I'm saying is, there's not an easy way to identify him. His
IP changes, his email address changes... Assuming it's desirable that
Google allow posting at all (and I'll grant perhaps it's not) I don't
see how Google could be more proactive about this. Yes, he's a
repeat offender but there is no way Google knows this automatically in
advance. The only way Google could prevent this upfront is by not
allowing anyone to post, which I believe would be a tremendous victory
for the trolls.

The three possibilities are: 1) Kill file him, which isn't perfect
but makes the group readable, or 2) Complain to Google every time,
which is only playing "whack-a-mole" and probably gives him a thrill,
or 3) Get law enforcement involved to track down the machines he's
cracking. If you have a way to do the third one, I'm all ears, but I
doubt the FBI cares much about some script kiddy spamming newsgroups.

School will start again in a month and he won't have time. I agree
it's lame that NNTP is so poorly implemented there isn't a better
solution. I also agree it's lame that there are people who are so
poorly implemented they think this is amusing. But right now the most
effective thing we all can do is plonk this guy and his subjects and
just try to keep soldiering on. Anything else short of getting some
FBI agents to kick down his door just gives him the attention he
craves, and doesn't make him stop. Reporting him to Google, as
satisfying as it may seem, is feeding the troll just as much as
posting to his threads do.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. If you look at full headers now versus when he first
showed up, he's switching free email accounts and even ISPs. I'm conjecturing at this point
it's a script kiddy and he's working from compromised machines. Given the similar nature of his postings, I also have to wonder if
it's a bot.

I hate to say it, but as of right this second there isn't much we can do but ignore him.
