I keep some comments here as a reference and every now and again I update

I may have missed it as I skip/ignore about 75% of the posts
nowadays, and it's worse in the summer with the addition of
the you-know-who.

ADD:

Onians, Dick
"Essential Woodcarving Techniques"
ISBN 1-86108-042-5
Excellent intro to tools, techniques, and carving styles.
Includes projects on relief carving, mouldings, human figures, and
abstracts. Color pics, great illustrations. I especially liked his
treatise on foliage. He tells both how and why. Highly recommended.
