Home Depot Rebates - NOT

I purchased a planer form HD in early October and sent the rebate forms in
an untimely manner, but before the deadline. I called them in early January
and they said I was in the queue and I would receive my rebate by the end of
the month. February came and no rebate, so I called again and was told to
wait another month. Well it's been another month and still no rebate. Did
Home Depot go tits up shelling out Golden Handshakes? Are they trying to
delay the rebates to meet quarterly targets? Any other experiences with
this? I'm in Canada BTW, so there is no Rebate Website.

If people stopped buying anything that had a rebate attached to it this
bullshit would stop.

That was a cost cutting measure.
It was cheaper than keeping him around.

not give hime a rebate?? ;)

I don't buy stuff because of the rebate any more. If I buy it and it
happens to have a rebate, I'll send it in, sure, but too many
manufacturers try to screw you out of your rightful rebate.

Screwup? I'd say he is far from a screwup.

Most store would help you if you went in and demanded satisfaction, but HD
will just stare at you.
Their customer service had really declined in the last couple year.

But that's just crazy! There are folks in Chicago who would put him in

$15K they'd leave him hang on a meat hook for a couple of days.<g>

I haven't had that experience. I bought a Dewalt 618 router that had a
rebate for a D handle. Mailed it in and got the response that I didn't have
necessary rebate form attached. I never got one when I checked out. Gave 'em
a call at the 800-who-cares number. Was taken care of without any trouble.
Maybe I just got lucky?

Judge not the splinter in your neighbor's butt, lest you get a pole
stuck in yours.

RE: Subject

Place a phone call to H/D headquarters in Atlanta.

When you actually get to a person, tell them you would like to talk to
the person who takes the most bathes.

When they ask you why, tell them if you have to kiss somebody's ass to
get your rebate, you want to kiss the cleanest one.

You will get your rebate.

SFWIW, my father used the above, word for word, with the local
utility, to get a power pole installed so that the contractors would
have power to build our house.

That was 1947. The pole was installed the next day.

I simply do all I can to avoid buying anything at Home Depot (Lowes,
too). A plague on both their houses! They treat their customers with
contempt. Their prices are often higher than can be found in
old-fashioned supply and hardware stores. If you are still shopping
there because you remember when they had low prices (which were solely
for the purpose of driving out all competion) then you should shop
around because I regularly find lower prices elsewhere.

Compare Lowes over the same period.

Well, given the choice between that and paying some screwup who
clusterfscked the company a quarter of a gigabuck to leave, it's very,
very tempting.

Good point. Many times a company does fairly well despite what the CEO
does -- kind of a corporate momentum effect. I've got both Lowes and HD
stock (thankfully not much HD stock). HD has not gone anywhere in the past
5 to 6 years and I can't get rid of it without loss. OTOH, Lowes has done
well, it has increased in value and split at least once in the same period
of time.

Isn't that the corporate that just paid a CEO 240 million as a

Where do you think they got the money to pay off the idiotic former CEO
from?

Only in corporate America can someone lose money to the scale of tens of
millions, ruin a company's reputation, and drive down it's stock prices only
to get paid 240 million to leave...
