Back in the mid to late 90 and early 2k, used to a see quite a few
Hitachi framing nailers on framing crews around here. To the point there
was a repair truck that would drive around to sites and replace
seals/parts, Haven't seen one in quite awhile.

Well, I don't think that will hurt Hitachi's reputation. From what I see o=
n the job, Hitachi makes a good, sturdy homeowner type tool at a good price=
, but that's about it.
However, back in the mid 80's, Hitachi made inroads into the USA about the =
time we started seeing Makita. BOTH were excellent tools then, and were st=
rictly industrial quality.
You could buy both brands fairly inexpensively at that time as that was the=
last gasp of American made tools in any quantity here. I bought my first =
Hitachi tool then as the American made tools were poor quality, shoddy in c=
onstruction and their fit an finish was bad. The only American tools I bou=
ght were Miwaukee, which at that time was 110% made in America. And man we=
re they expensive.
I bought several Hitachi tools then and they were all excellent performers.
Metabo is know for pretty good tools (NOT Festool quality)from Germany and =
parts unknown, so no telling what those two are up to. Hitachi and Lowes c=
ould be good, or could be bad. With so many cheapening up their tools thes=
e days, I am thinking the bean counters are probably buying the name as muc=
h as anything, and we will see a "price conscious" product out on the marke=
t from them.
Will be fun to see what shows up.

I bought my Hitachi framing nailer from Lowes, so the BORG carrying
them isn't exactly new.
