In the current issue of Wood magazine there is an article on this type of
finish using a 2 part epoxy.

| The stuff looks like 100 coates of high gloss varnish was applied.
Is that the stuff they put on some restaurant tables that looks like it's
about a quarter-inch thick?
Try this product called Behlen's Rockhard table top varnish

I believe you are talking about a two part epoxy. You can find it in the
Lowes, Home Depot. Look by the varnishes. It comes in a large 1/2 gallon jug
with a smaller catalyst. It costs about $30, just make sure you have enough
when you start!
The stuff looks like 100 coates of high gloss varnish was applied.
