My Griz G1012 (18") has the same round/flat bar and no issue. But if
he has thumbscrews for the guides, it shouldn't take more than a
minute to set up the guides again. No big deal.

Excellent point. Go with a larger saw when you need the size and
you'll be able to fit larger pieces in the larger throat as an added
benefit. They usually come with larger tables and motors, too.

I bought a 18" Jet (JWB18 i believe) from the Big Tool Store about ten
years ago and love it. I wanted the bigger table because I cut quite
a bit of 8/4 hardwood for rocking horses and it makes it easy to
handle the bigger pieces. Mine has the European guides and the lower
guides are a little fiddly to adjust but they might have fixed it by
now. I finally had to change the tires this year. Great saw.

Here's what I have along with the 6" riser and H7584 resaw fence. With
the Highland hardware 1/2" resaw woodslicer blade, I am impressed.

When it comes to riser blocks, there's a good chance a cheaper one will be
available for another saw. My Jet has a Powermatic riser block, and
everything fits just fine.

Oh it's more than that... There's a lot of clones of the original Delta
bandsaw out there, so things that fit one are likely to fit another.

Something to think about is that of dust collection. Some use a pathetic
2" port screwed on to the door with the intent of checking a box on a list.
Cutting a 12" path through a 12" long log produces a lot of sawdust, and
it's got to go somewhere. Dust often collects on the tires and causes
vibration.

I haven't seen many band saws that had great dust collection. My 18"
Jet has 4" port attached to the upper corner of the lower cabinet,
where the blade enters the cabinet. They have a brush at that
location that brushes dust off right in front of the port. That is
more thought that most machines get but a lot of the dust ends up
piled up around the guides before the blade enters the lower cabinet.
But.... It keeps most of it in one place for vacuuming.

What you did not say was exactly what you planned on doing with it. If you
want something to do general bandsaw work, I would recommend the HF 14"
with a WoodSlicer blade from Highland Hardware. They used to sell a riser
block, which I have, for it to give it a 12" to 13" resaw capability.
If they no longer sell the riser block, get a riser block from Grizzly, they
are essentially the same machine.
On the other hand, if you want to use it to slice 1/16" veneer from exotic
hardwoods, get a Laguna or one of the other high dollar items.
In either case, get the WoodSlicer blade - there just isn't any better. I
have tried, Olson, Timberwolf, and Carter, the Woodslicer wins hands down.

I've got an 18" Jet also. It has been fine... interestingly enough I've
never had a drift problem. No matter the blade I've been able to track it
such that cuts run parallel to the fence with no fence skewing. Jet has
stiffened up the frame since I got mine (also about 10 years ago) but
otherwise it seems to be the same saw.
The only time I had an issue was with really big, thick and heavy pieces of
wood where I was stretching the limits of the saw's table. As a result I
picked up a 36" Crescent that I should have up and running this coming
summer...

Delta and Jet aren't THAT swappable. Some bolt-ons come in 2 different
flavors because of this. Maybe you can use all of the risers
interchangably, but I don't know for sure.

Agreed - Jet probably has more similarity to Powermatic than Delta but
even those are different. They appear to share some of the same major
parts, castings, etc. When I was looking at 14" lathes years ago the
Jets and Powermatics appeared have very similar leg and body castings.

I have the Grizzly 14" with riser block. Once set up it works fine.
But every time I raise or raise or lower the guide, all three upper
blade guides have to be adjusted. The upper guide bar is round with a
flat on it, and it wants to turn unless tightly clamped in. Some
saws I've seen have a hexagonal shape, which makes more sense.

Define effective. If you mean to capture 90=95% of the dust, yes, my
Laguna LT16HD falls in that range with a 1100 CFM DC.
Resawing wider boards is the the toughest to collect since much of the
dust becomes trapped inside the wide cut.
Sure, Laguna has what I think is a great system.
I just don't own it. Wish I did.

The 14" model currently being sold at HD appears to be an EOL closeout.
Cheap is correct, but consumer reviews are horrible - no fence, no step
locks, additional Rigid 6" riser is 1/2 the cost of the saw, motor is
slightly underpowered for any serious heavy work in hardwood, stock
blade is absolute junk and should immediately be replaced OOB, vibration
issues and a host of other problems.
I cannot comment from personal experience, but reviews from actual
consumers and knowledgeable users are not good. Most end up spending
extra bucks just getting this model up to decent performance levels,
even for hobby use.
Recommend spending a few extra bucks up-front for a decent Grizzly or
Steel City.
Not saying don't buy, simply encouraging a little research and thought

Not sure your $150.00 is the same model year or not. But, fur a buck
fifty I would buy it, spend the money for any upgrades needed, and still
come out ahead.
Unfortunately though, shipping from Ca would cost me more than a new
one. :-)

Wow, get his Ridgid. Great price.
If you decide you need to upgrade in the future, you'll get your money
back selling it.

I have about the worst 14" bandsaw ever sold (Reliant) and it too has a
round bar with a flat; however, I don't have to readjust the guides after
moving it because - if necessary - I swivel it to position the guides
properly after raising/lowering it and before tightening it. Once the
locking screw is tightened, there is no way it is going to turn.

I've got the 14" Rikon with the 13" resaw capability and am quite pleased
with it. I've had it for a few years now. But it is expensive compared
to a 14" with the normal 6" resaw.

My old Rockwell Delta BS has a hexagonal shape, one of the things they
cheapened to round shape on the newer models. I can raise and lower my
guide bar with the saw running, no problem.

I would not buy, or want, a cheap BS. I could live with a cheaper (not
cheap) table saw, but a band saw has too much going on to keep you busy
fussing with and never getting right, or to stay right.

My saw never needs any adjustments unless I change blades, which only
happens if I break a blade (rare) or it gets too dull.
If I were in the market, I'd either buy something like you have, or go
for a used commercial saw if I couldn't afford one like yours.

That Delta is probably a great saw. It is going to cost you quite a bit
of money for better dust collection. :~)
My Laguna is going for $2600+ these days.

Readjusting the guides every time you raise or lower the guard, too damn
long. And another reason I recommend Laguna. It has a round upper
guide bar with a flat spot but does not have this issue.
For the original poster, I was going to put my two cents worth in but
you immediately ruled out 220 volts so....
Basically with a BS you get what you pay for. An inexpensive BS will
work well when set up properly but how often will you have to set it up.
Something to consider, will a less expensive BS have a rigid enough back
bone to prevent flex in the frame? When tensioning the blade if the
frame gives even a little you have to readjust. When the blade expands
from use the tension changes, will the frame flex when that happens?
