Tool shopping! Where? The Mart!

Think I was sufficiently admonished for buying my galoo (?galloo?) at
WalMart? Enough so to stop buying Wooddorking related items there? Nope.
And I'm not talking Minwhacks Poly, Deft Lacker or Foam Brushes.

I had a Gift Card at WalMart that had been lying fallow in the wallet for
some time now. Numerous attempts to find something of worth there, failed.
I had resigned myself to picking up a B&D 9.6V Firestorm Cordless for $5
(after applying gift card). But I really did NOT need another drill. My
14.4V Milwaukee is Numero Uno, and some inexpensive corded B&D's ($10) hold
the countersink or square drive bit.

As I was walking out - I passed by the clearance aisle. There, on the bottom
shelf - Skil Cordless 14.4V Trim Saws. See:
http://www.skil.com/Products/Tools/Circular+Saws+Cordless/product.htm?id=2575-02

I'd wanted a cordless trim saw for plywood, but wasn't ready to pop the
$199-$250 for a real one - Bosch, DeWalt, PC. My 1970's craftsman skil saw
was doing fine.

Well they're $50 on clearance, down from a hunnert. After Gift Card, my cost
is about $30. I'm willing to take a chance on it. The blade is 5 3/8" 10mm
arbor - so it'll fit a Bosch or DeWalt if that ends up being all I can
salvage. Maybe the battery will last only a few months. Dunno' we'll see.

I'll be drop-dead surprised if this saw works well enough for a real Trim
pro to use.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if it works well enough for a weekend warrior.

If nothing else, I'll have spent $30 to find out if I like the ergonomics
and utility of a cordless, blade on left, trim saw for cutting plywood.
Habitat for Humanity might like it in the end.

Then chalk one up to the Skil. Used it yesterday to slice up some 3/4" BORG
ply. Slow going, but it made it, without acting like it was running short on
gas. So far, so good.

Don't know about Skil, but my Ryobi cordless trim saw ($100 new with a
drill) is a POS. It can't make it through a crosscut on piece of 3/4"
plywood. My new, fathers day gift, on the other hand, kicks ass.
Milwaukee 18V cordless trim saw.
