Years ago, my brother and I made a guillotine for a haunted house with two
8' long pieces of plywood about 6" wide. We routed a groove down the
middle of each piece. The two sides were held together with 18" pieces of
wood.
We made a blade out of painted plywood that slid down the groves. No one
could see how crude it was since the haunted house was dark.
It last a year or two until someone backed over it.

If you're reconstructing guillotines, then there's one chap to talk
to. Quite possibly _the_ living expert on the history of the
guillotine and its development.
