Boice-Crane Bandsaw Progress

Hey all,

I just wanted to stop in and say I'm making progress with my 58-year-old
"new" bandsaw. 1945 Boice-Crane, 3/4 HP Delco motor (now wired for
110), 14" wheels (new tires awaitin'), 10" resaw capacity, steel frame.

Some kind soul over at oldwwmachines.com had just posted the owners
manual for a similar saw. Printed it out, and the basic mechanism is
the same. So I've saved $100 (the cost of the service manual from
machinerymanuals.com) plus postage. I'll be expressing my gratitude to
oldwwmachines.com and the poster shortly.

Back to the saw. It needs new tires. Bottom wheel came off, after some
consternation, with some WD-40. I couldn't figure out how to get the
top wheel off. Finally got a brass ring around the bearing to unscrew,
but that revealed nothing interesting.

The owners manual says to just loosen the tension spring until it comes
off, then pull. Score one for RTFM! I'll be cleaning the wheels (I
forget if it's Duginske's or Bird's book that recommends laquer thinner;
I bought some, I'll let y'all know how it works.) and maybe stretching
on the new tires this week. Then the guides get adjusted, and the new
cool blocks get installed. I hadta buy two sets of cool blocks for
deltas to get two 45-degree and two right-angle blocks (and I'll have
four square ones left over. Anyone have ideas for them?).

And do link bels come in a 7/16ths width?
