broken dehumidifier

I've a dehumidifier that's no longer doing it's job. I really don't know
the inner workings, but is there a pump/compressor that could be used as a
pump for veneering in there? It's a Goldstar, about 20pints perday
capacity.

This is of course assuming that the part I'm hoping to salvage isn't the one
that's broken.

Then it sounds ok for my use. neither high volume nor quick is a concern
since the veneer/vacuum bag it's going to be attached to will be nearly
empty to start.

thanks for the info.

A dehumidifier is basically a very small air conditioner unit that
removes moisture from the air as it passes over the evaporator coli
then re-warms the air as it passes oer the condenser coil for a miimal
change in the air temperature.

The usual failure mode is loss of refrigerant due to a leak. The
compressor can probably be used as a vacuum pump, but it won't move a
lot of air or draw a high vacuum quickly.
