CMS vertical capacity - What's the point?

The Dewalt 706 CMS has a verticle cutting capacity of 6" and the new Delta
dual bevel has even more. A single bevel Dewalt 705 gives you 4.25".

What is the point of these greater verticle capacities over that of a single
bevel saw? Is there any time you would actually need this much capacity or
are they just chasing a spec to sell more saws and get more market share?

Ryan

Apparently you have never tried to cut 5" or 6" baseboard
while it's standing up. It can't be done on a 10" CMS in the
past. A saw with that much capacity would be wonderful for
the trim carpenters of the world... I got a 12" because of
a single job that had 5" baseboard.

What not just lay the board flat?
