I think you need to learn the meaning of "Drinking the Kool-Aid."
Oh, geez. Here we go again. Mr. Know-It-All is going to start
spanking people in this newsgroup again because nobody in the world
knows anything except for him--except he never truly defines his
position, he just constantly points out where the other person is
wrong.
Who or what awoke you, Neil?
I think it is totally amazing that the only opinion one can have is to
agree that Neil is right, no matter what. Opinions that go contrary
to his are wrong. Nobody is allowed to disagree with him.
He is a lot like the Imam who is trying to get that mosque built by
Ground Zero. He is supposed to be "bridge builder" but all of his
roads go only one way--and Neil is exactly the same way.
I guess nobody should post anything that even hints at an opinion in
here unless they send an e-mail to His Majesty to get his blessings.
Of course, he would probably still have some smart ass thing to say
about it once it gets posted.
Remember: Neil is the voice of tolerance--he just does not tolerate
any view that is contrary to his.
Sorry, guys. I have been out of it today because my sister went under
the knife a little over five hours ago for breast cancer. They
removed the tumor and a bunch of lymph nodes and her prognosis looks
good but it was a stressful day nonetheless.
Then the first thing I do to relax a bit is to log into
rec.woodworking and see "The Fool" is back. I couldn't control
myself.

All right! We have a nugget upon which we can hold to a certain level of
agreement. I hold to the notion that opinion can well be founded on fact -
albeit an interpretation of fact. The problem comes in that interpretation
part. If all fact were nicely discernable then the world of discernment and

Funny how you use ridiculous examples trying to prove your point.
We talk about walls and I am of the opinion that it helps to shelter
me from the elements, you on the other hand find that wall a nuisance
because you smashed into it with your tricycle.
Same wall, different opinions.
Ergo, a simple fact can generate many different opinions and therefore
is an abstract concept and can never be resolved, only agreed upon.
Yet when I say: "if you light that stick of dynamite and hold it in
your hand whilst it explodes, it is likely to affect your hearing for
a few minutes."... that is not only an opinion, but a statement of
fact at the same time.

Christian worshippers attacked in Indonesia
(AP) Ð 14 hours ago
BEKASI, Indonesia Ñ Police say assailants on motorcycles have stabbed a
Christian worshipper in the stomach and pounded a minister in the head
with a wooden plank near a former church outside Jakarta.
Neither of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
No one has claimed responsibility for the Sunday's attacks. But
suspicion immediately fell on Islamic hard-liners who have repeatedly
warned members of the Batak Christian Protestant Church against
worshipping on a field housing their now-shuttered church.
Local police Chief Imam Sugianto says Asia Sihombing, a worshipper, was
on her way to the field when she was stabbed.
He says the Rev. Luspida Simanjuntak was beaten when she tried to come
to Sihombing's aid.

Maybe if you were to try to communicate as an adult rather that using
the childish gibberish you usually spew forth, you might get a
straight answer.
If it is a news source Rupert doesn't control, it at least deserves a
look.
As far as Democratic behavior is concerned, I support those who
support me which hasn't been the Republicans since Reagan became
president and the great rape of the masses began for real.

Here's another - very close but it lends a different perspective than your
chosen one...
1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce
complete certainty.
As you can see - the total absence of fact is not stated in either
definition.

It is written in the dictionary - and in the minds of all properly informed
people
OPINION - 1. A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not
substantiated by positive knowledge or proof:

There ARE other definitions, such as a "legal opinion" or "expert opinion,"
but they are not germane here.

Oh no! Quite often an opinion is based on facts, as is typical in
paranoiacs. The problem often is, as you pointed out, false - or defective -

There are thought to be about 1BN Muslims.
Thinking this represents Islam is tantamount to thinking that child-

Neither is right. Neither is logical. Neither makes sense.

Nah, it is not pure BS. But go ahead and keep believing your own
rhetoric because, from what I have seen (and it is a fact), nobody
else in this group will. And nobody will until you learn some common
decency and understand that people view things in more than one way.
I am sorry you don't believe that but, well, it is what it is. A

always used to say, "You would make the Pope swear."
See ya.
I only hope your stay will be a short one. But if it isn't, well,
there are a lot more threads in this newsgroup where one can still
read mature comments. I use Google Groups, so I can't *plonk* you but
I can choose to ignore anything you post because I refuse to read crap
that goes around in circles, never really makes a firm stance on
anything, is forever cutting and rude, and deliberately incites.

I hope your sister comes through it okay. I've helped too many family
members battle THEIR way through the same disease.
The rest of what you posted ... is ... pure bullshit.
If your opinions aren't based on facts -- ALL the facts (not just
those that support your opinion), and don't hold up to even the most
cursory of examination for things LIKE facts or logic, then ... maybe
they shouldn't BE your opinions.

I believe what I said: judging the many by the actions of the few is
stupid.
I have STRONG issues with MANY tenets of their faith, and the social
issues, such as the ones you raised.
But that's not what the discussion was.

Watch this.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/
Since it is a compilation of many polls it is more accurate than any
individual poll. (bias has been canceled)
NBC,CBS and ABC are usually significantly different from the rest.
(simple significance is (X1-X2)/ sigma <3.0 from any statistics book.)
By the average of polls, the person in the Whitehouse has had an
approval rating of less that 50% since November of last year, and his
disapproval rating has been higher that his approval since last July.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html
Today even ABC finds that the 4% more ot the people disprove that approve.
Wake up and smell the roses.

This was an Associated Press (AP) story, not a Fox News story. Fox News
just reported it, while the rest of the news were busy calling Americans
bigots and imperialist pigs...

Someone once said "There may be moderate Muslims, but there's no such
thing as moderate Islam". Or, put another way, the only *good" Muslim is
a *bad* Muslim.
Or do you believe that killing someone because they leave the faith
represents moderation? Or because they tried to convert a Muslim? Is
stoning an adulteress moderate?
IOW, if they take the Quran (when did it stop being the Koran?) literally
it's impossible to be a moderate. Of course, the same could be said
about most religions, including Christianity and Judaism.

The level at which you decide to stop gathering facts and settle on an
opinion varies, so your level of "truth" may vary.
Before the end of the Renaissance, it was a well-known "fact" that the
Earth was flat.
It's conundrum time, boys and girls!

Unless there are multiple variants, I remember it as follows:
"I think all right thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being
told that ordinary decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and
tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am."

------------------------------------------------------------------
And a gross understatement ... :()

Modest correction:
An OPINION is a sincerely held belief NOT based on facts.
So, then, if one has an OPINION, one does NOT have facts.
If one has facts, one has truth.
(An opnion CAN turn out to be correct; if you're lucky.)

Larry, that's cruel of you forcing him to state facts. You know how
that frustrates the hell out of them when that happens.
