I looked you up this morning, and I recognize you. Definitely a small
world.
My parents still live up there. My mom teaches at Fort Kent HS, but
she wasn't there when you were. My father is one of the most talented
woodworkers I've ever met; I wish I had a tenth of his skill. I can
send you his email address if you're ever looking for a good resource
in the area. If you've ever done any hunting or fishing in Wallagrass
or Eagle Lake, you might know him. He was the game warden there for 20
years. Of course, that also might change your opinion of him. ;-)

I used to bike to university all winter--big skidoo boots, mitts up to
my elbows, ski goggles, face mask...
My personal best is -63C with windchill. But once you get below -30 or
so it really doesn't matter...you just pile on more insulating layers.

I delivered a paper at a conference in Ottawa one fine November day. It
got cold and snowy rather quickly. A colleague from Japan was there
with only a suit jacket; he compared latitude and figured that temps in
Ottawa would be comparable to those in Tokyo. He probably learned
something about inland v. seacoast. And about studying approaching fronts.

South and WAAAAYY east of toontown.
I'm not bitchin', we always know we're going to get these temps at some
point. We've had a beautifully warm winter up till yesterday.
Hopefully getting them now means we won't get them at the end of March.

That would be me. I got an email from my local airport reminding me my currency
in the Piper Arrow was getting ready to expire. I went down there this
afternoon and scored a free maintenance flight. It had a minor oil leak in the
prop that was going to be fixed at the maintenance base.
I like free. Two flights in severe clear weather: life is good. BTW: drove
down to the airport in my shirt sleeves with the windows open.
Ask my coworkers. They will all agree I suck.

Yeah, well, thanks for the heads up, and the weather. Temps here in
S.Ont. have dropped from +6C to -6C over the course of about half a day

Agreed. Here in Toronto, I've been going out on a regular basis and not once
this winter (yet) have I got my wheelchair stuck in the snow. That means
it's been pretty mild so far as I'm concerned.

It was 19F this morning when I got up. It was about 45F this noon when
my neighbor came over and asked if I were aware of the HUGE LEAK at my
pump house. I noticed a drip or two around the landscaping plumbing a
couple weeks ago and filed it for this summer's work. That very joint
let go this morning.

Hey Josh, I'm still up here in northern Maine, Presque Isle to be exact.
Originally from Fort Kent. Still cold here, just like you left it, though
winter's been a bit milder then normal. Are you from "the county"?
