I just received and assembled a new Freud FT2000E (in a package with table,
plate, and fence). I am excited to play with it but I having problems when
raising the height of the bit using the fine adjustment knob. It seems that
cranking the adjustment knob located on (lets say) the right side, the unit
apparently doesn't move on the left side, cocks and doesn't move. In order
to move up, I have to get under the table and apply pressure to the left
side so that the motor slides smoothly on both shafts. Adjusting the height
down, is no problem.
It sounds like the Freud is a pretty popular, and respectable router. Is
this a common issue with height adjustments? I have contemplated removing
the spring on the left shaft to see if that would allow it to move up freely
with only the adjustment knob, but I don't know if that will work or just
create the same problem when lowering the bit.
Your help is appreciated.
