Oh Canada!

Proof positive that it's a fucked up place with some weird thinking
individuals:
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/04/15/canadian-university-reportedly-suspends-student-team-racy-photo/

Are you kidding me?! An engineer hottie, and they're punishing her
and her team. Sheesh. And she was doing it for charity. Double
sheesh. She should be used in the college's promotional materials to
attract the geekazoids that apply for admission to engineering
school. If she was allowed to go the competition and walk around the
pits in that bikini you could pretty much guarantee that other schools
would forget to do something or other important.

"Sherman, did you put gas in the car?"
"Wow."
"Sherman? Gas? Car?"
"Wow.
"Sherman?!"
"Wow."
"WTF are you looking at you stup...oh, wow. Let's go look at
Waterloo's car - before the crowd gets too big."

Back in the early 80's, the womens engineering group at the U of Illinois
had a fund-raising t-shirt, Drawing of a caveman in the foreground chipping
away at a stone wheel. In the background, next to a cave entrance is a
bearskin-bikini-clad cavewoman. Caption read: "Engineering. The World's
=second= oldest profession."

These became _instant_ collector's items, when the University got wind of
them, and banned any further sales.

Engineers and scantily clad females...when did THAT happen?
At U of T(oronto) we had a Lady Godiva parading at one of our
events...mind you, that was 1972.

And Balderstone is right, your right wing, south of the border, is WAY
more fucked up than our 'right wingers'.

Nothing "right wing" or "religious" about it according to the
official explanation coming from 2 miles down the road.

The did the shoot in the design center without permission, and they
had another car in the center as well. They WERE going to do the shoot
with the other car, then decided to do it with the project SAE car
instead..

I really think they went overboard with the sanctions - that car couls
VERY well have been a winner at the competition in Michigan, and a lot
of sponsors are not very happy. U of W has traditionally done
reasonably well at these events, and their "midnight sun" has ALWAYS
done very well.

The new EcoChallenge car is also going to get some attention too --
hydrogen fuel cell technology

That's my thinking as well. The overly politically correct are rarely
on the starboard side, particularly in a university setting. But it's
not a political thing, though some may try to make political hay out
of it. It's a she's-pretty-and-smart-and-if-she-doesn't-mind-if-I-

An example of right-wing political correctness is a teacher at a religious
college who has to resign when the administration learns that he got a
divorce. However I grant you that in most cases when we hear of a
"politically correct" incident it reflects a left-wing rather than
right-wing point of view.

Not too sure that crowd are right wing either. But both fall into the con
artist category.

And the "official line" is they are being punished for using the
student design center for personal use without authorization - in
other words it could have been Bubba in a parka, and they'd still be
suspended.

Oh. I thought that was a Mission: Impossible reference. Nevermind.

Threee days before Tucson, Howard Dean explained that the
tea party movement is "the last gasp of the generation that
has trouble with diversity." Rising to the challenge of
lowering his reputation and the tone of public discourse,
Dean smeared tea partiers as racists: They oppose Obama's
agenda, Obama is African-American, ergo...

Let us hope that Dean is the last gasp of the generation
of liberals whose default position in any argument is to
indict opponents as racists. This McCarthyism of the left
-- devoid of intellectual content, unsupported by data --
is a mental tic, not an idea but a tactic for avoiding
engagement with ideas. It expresses limitless contempt for
the American people, who have reciprocated by reducing
liberalism to its current characteristics of electoral
weakness and bad sociology. --George Will 14 JAN 2011

Mr. Will has said some smart things, e.g. his observations on birthers and
other right-winguts causing "vibrations of weirdness" in the Republican
Party that is encouraging candidates for office who are, "careless,
delusional, egomaniacal, spotlight-chasing candidates to whom the sensible
American majority would never entrust a lemonade stand, much less nuclear
weapons". We could also consider that Mr. Will's list of plausible
Republican candidates for President does not include any favorites of the
Tea Party, so while he relishes the opportunity to tear a strip off Howard
Dean, that doesn't mean he actually holds the Tea Party in much more respect
than does Dean.

Of course Will has also expressed some rather foolish ideas, e.g. that a
person wearing blue denim is both phony and immature and contributes to the
decline of the nation through sheer slovenlyness. I'd bet most of the folks
who read this newsgroup have worn denim from time to time, not to mention
running shoes and T-shirts (also on Will's list of blight-inducing clothing)
probably without being aware that it marked them as immature slobs dragging
down the whole national character. Anyone who could write that nonsense is
clearly not smart all the time, but then none of us are.
