while you are at it, maybe a wooden hinge? Incra makes a jig and
there are a few hits on google on homemade jigs to drill the critical
hole. The lunch box is a great idea, I am planning on making a
briefcase and am waiting until I finish my CNC router for some
engraving (which I hope to have running by the end of the year since I
will have 2 or 3 weeks off of work). Good luck, your sandwiches
should taste much better.

Lee Valley has a great big catalogue of this stuff. There are many
more specialists too, but they can get expensive and be more than you
need.
Really though you ought to be able to find this stuff locally. It's
not that uncommon.
Another alternative is to scrap that really ancient cardboard and
leathercloth suitcase that's up in the attic.

Make it, If you use a timber that's pretty strong cross-grain you can
saw something out to shape and hinge the ends in two wooden blocks. I
find most commercial handles too small and too uncomfortable. Most of
my toolbox handles are bandsawn out of curved branches, to suit my own
hands.
