Here is what the POTUS and Harper had for lunch.
Pacific Coast tuna with a chilli and citrus vinaigrette
Maple and miso cured Nunavut Arctic char
Lightly pickled vegetables and an organic beet relish
Applewood smoked plains bison
Winter root vegetables and local mushrooms
Cauliflower and rosemary puree
Juniper and Niagara red wine jus
Saugeen yogurt pot de creme with a lemon and lavender syrup
Wild blueberry and partridgeberry compote
Acadian buckwheat honey and sumac tuile
WTF??? I have never heard of any of that stuff. Farking BISON??
I am so embarrassed.
No wonder Obama stopped for a bite of Beaver Tail.

Zacktly! What's with the snob Tilley shorts/macrame crap? How CBC can

This POTUS eats half-whatever chili stuff! He eats like real people.

years he was POTUS. We finally get an important visitor from the US
gov't and we feed him that kinda pompous crap? Saugeen yogurt pot de

Char and tuna I have no problem with, but wtf is a partridgeberry, or a
tuile, and why pickled veggies. Winter roots, left over XMas trees?

Let's see...
Here in Saskatoon I can buy bison, char, tuna (pacific coast, sushi
quality) and much of the rest of the menu, at my local Co-op grocery
store.
We hosted a Japanese exchange student a couple of years ago. When we
offered her bison as a meal she was very excited to taste something so
obviously Canadian.
Looks like a fine menu to me.

Because fresh veggies don't grow in Canada in February weel, except in
greenhouses?
> Winter roots, left over XMas trees?
Root vegetables that are stored over the winter. Turnip/rutabaga,
carrot, onion, potato, parsnip, maybe including cabbage. Basically, a
source of vitamin C that can be grown in the summer, and stored (and
eaten) through the winter.
My grandfather was a market gardener just north of Winnipeg. His root
celar was a huge thing, lined with limestone he hauled from the river
with horse teams, and covered with earth. He finally dismantled it in
the late 60s when refrigeration made it too expensive to keep safe, and
too dangerous to let us kids play in.
I remember the sacks and sacks and sacks of veggies in that hole in the
ground. Kept us healthy through the winters before tropical fruit were
$2.99 a pound at Safeway. Yes, young'un. There was such a time.
Don't mock what you don't have a fucking clue about...

This!
Maybe I should have made my point more clearly.
Who are we, as Canadians, to serve up such a faggy fare. The dude eats
frickin' cheeseburgers. You know, like Lyle Lovett says:
"Look
I understand too little too late
I realize there are things you say and do
You can never take back
But what would you be if you didn't even try
You have to try
So after a lot of thought
I'd like to reconsider
Please
If it's not too late
Make it a cheeeeseburger."

Sure he did. I distinctly remember him thanking those people who waved

I imagine he enjoyed trying the less-than-routine cuisine - but I can
also imagine that he might have enjoyed a good chili dog if that'd been
offered instead.
The food sounds pricey, but good, warm-hearted hospitality? That's
priceless everywhere.

I had to look over that menu twice to see if there was any obvious
reference to regional foods. I can't see anything that I can't get
in Winnipeg (if I actually looked for pretentiously names cusine).
As an indicator of this menu's origins, I was at a conference with my
wife and grandson at the hotel/casino Lac Lamay in Gatineau, PQ just
across the river from Ottawa. I went to the restaurant with my wee
buddy for lunch. They wouldn't look at us. As we patiently waited I
picked a wine list off the wall and saw the prices ranged from about
250$ to 700$ a bottle. Not bad for rotted grape juice freshly
squeezed last month. I got up and took my little guy to McD a few
blocks away. The place was filled with kids in the play park and had
a better class of people. And no one spit at us like they would have
at that other place filled with polititions running up 1400$ lunch
tabs. I wondered if the place was very dimly lit so you couldn't see
what you were eating or to allow you spit it out without being seen.
Live is so much easier when you order food that you don't have to
guess how bad it must be to have queer names. I feel sorry for Obama.
He seemed like a nice enough guy. Does AF1 have a stomach pump?

Like Dave said, a fine menu that highlights a few of the best foods
that Canada has to offer. Many of us have gone beyond hot turkeys and
poutine.
I can get all that stuff here in Whitehorse. My only quibbles i that
wood bison might have been better, and the char should have come from
the Yukon.

Last time I had McD was 6 years ago when I installed a countertop in
one and the manager offered me ANYthing I wanted. I had a hashbrown
patty, an orange juice and a coffee...and had serious heartburn for
hours afterwards. Prior to that day, it had been another 6 years or so
since I had McD. I hate that shit. I also don't eat KFC, BK,
TacoBelch, Arby's.
I will have the odd Mozaburger at A & W, I like the fries at DQ and
Costco, but that pretty much sums it up for me... oh.. and I'll have a
Subway.

Now that sounds good. Any brew that can withstand a name like that HAS

although I am pretty sure I may have some bad memories 'bout The Soo.
Early '70's.. started in The Black Knight...I think....
Then, Southbound in a small tanker (Texaco Brave) with minimal ballast
and a hefty Northerly wind behind us. That little boat would worm its
stern in a most unnatural way and seriously hung over, it was too much
for me to handle. I wanted to die. In fact, I think I did die.

You're right next to the US border, go have your Mickey D garbage.
Saskatoon is a lot more Canadian than Sarnia. And this come from
somebody living in Canada's True North: the land of moose, mounties
and mountains!
Please pass this on to Dave as he is still boycotting google news.

OK, Ok, you do show a modicum of taste. :-) But what Obama was
served sounds like a spectacular meal, probably a memorable one if the
chef was any good.
Not that there is anything wrong with hot turkey sandwiches, poutine,
cheeseburgers (real ones, not the fast food ones) or beaver tails.
Note that I have eaten those in St John's Newfoundland, Beaver Creek
Yukon, and in many points between (except the beaver tails which are a
speciality of Ottawa).

Here in small town US in the fly-over country, Indiana, we have many of
the same fish and buffalo, we also get elk. We lived on the coast for
many years and what I missed was the fresh water bluegills, crappies,
and perch; pan fried, you can not get any thing better.
One of the funniest commercials we have heard was for a local restaurant
the advertised they get their shrimp fish fresh from -------> Chicago.
In their defense, they do put brown gravy on their fries and make Moosehead
Beer.

problem is, most americans think that if it isn't deep fried, its not
a good meal.

Sorry, but I don't follow the details and ins-&-outs of Canadian
politics....
But it sure appears that each menu item listed touched each major
Provence of Canada. Or is it each major regional city? Am I missing
something from the far East Coast PEI?
Not to be embarrassed about...
Trust me, Maddoff is someone to be embarrassed about.
And now that guy Stanford, Whom I refuse to debase the honorarium of
knighthood by using the title of Sir.
