Folks -
I *may* have found an old Uni for ~1000 or so, but I am not yet sure if
need/has a decent fence. I'm a-looking for input. A bies looks like it'll
run 300 anyway.... I'd like feedback and leads for other good fences as
well. I know of one called a "Mule" I believe.... but don't know what I
might be missing in my search. Comments from users of different fences and
the pros and cons would be very much appreciated.
TIA

Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be sworn in tomorrow as California's new
governor. Did you know that his first act is to change the state motto?
Instead of "Eureka- I've Found it" it's going to be..... "Nice
AH-Ssssssss!!!"
I paid somewhere between $1100 and $1150 for a new Unisaw without fence. I
had a 30" Beis that I had mounted on an old Crafrsman. As a rule of thumb, I
limit my budget to 70% of new price when something is "like new." I factor
down from there depending on condition.

I have the Biesemeyer and I love it. I've never used the Unifence, so I
can't provide a comparison. I've had mine for about 10 months and haven't
had to realign it at all and it's dead on accurate. I've also found it very
easy to make jigs for and to clamp things to, which is pretty important.
About the Uni you found - if it is "old" then I can't see how $1000 is any
kind of fair price, especially if you have to drop $300 for a new fence.
You can get a brand new Unisaw for $1700 or so, and can get a Jet or Grizzly
for even less (depending on the package).

Don't pay OVER that IF it does nOT have a excellant quality fence. I
bought mine reconditioned for less than $900 from Delta and I could
not tell it was not new/never used.

May need a fence, all for $1000? Price seems steep to me. I am not sure if I
would pay $1000 with a Bies or Uniifence on it. Depending on age and
condition I would pay somewhere around $500 to $750, unless it was like new,
with a quality 50" fence, then maybe $1000
I passed up a brand new Unisaw a couple of years ago for $1000. It had a
30"Biesmeyer on it.
